Morrowind Overhaul – Sounds & Graphics 3.0

This pack contains mods that will alter and enhance the visual graphics and the sounds of the game. The aim of this project is to make more people around the world appreciate this huge game by giving them a simple installation file which includes everything they will need to play Morrowind with gorgeous graphics and sounds. I’ve tried to keep Morrowind’s “feeling”; therefore, the mods/meshes/textures I chose are the ones that I chose are the ones that I think are most faithful to the original colours and environment. A benefit of this compilations is that players don’t need to go through the “download every single mod out there and try it” phase of customizing Morrowind. The pack is intended for people who would prefer not to hand-pick mods out of the thousands of mods available. Modding Morrowind can be overwhelming for some people, and they might want to start out with a compilation before they feel comfortable picking and choosing mods on their own. The installer is meant to as easy to install as possible, but please be sure to read the guides and the prerequisites before trying to use it.

  1. Greetings! Thank you for compiling and sharing the work of so many great Modders. This is a remarkable achievement. Great package and excelent choice of mods. My Morrowind installation is now perfect!

    • for some reason i don’t have MGEgui.exe, nor do i have morrowind installation folder, i have the steam goty version plz help. when i try to start morrownd it says i need to find MGEgui.exe

      • please help me! i want to de-intsall and don’t know how, i accidently forgot to create a back-up

        • If you haven’t fixed it by now, the simplest method would be to go to steam/steamapps/common/morrowind and copy/paste your saves folder to somewhere else (desktop/my_docs/whatever) then delete everything inside the /common/morrowind folder. Go into steam and right click morrowind, then go to local files tab and click “verify game content”. It’ll redownload the game, then you just need to unpack MGSO_3.0_FINAL.rar into your morrowind folder after it’s done downloading and try again. 🙂

Don’t forget to put your saves folder back when you’re done, that’s a scary moment haha

  2. Thanks for making it so easy for all of us, its a great succes!

    • Where can I find this auto install, 2.01, for the Steam version of Morrowind?

      • Click on My Computer. Then on OS (Operating System) Then Program FIles X86, From there, find & click on Steam, then click on Steam Apps, then Common, then find Morrowind & double click the file.

THIS is where you want to put the Morrowind Overhaul file. You want to open that file from this directory! It will only work for the Steam copy if you do this.

This is a very easy step by step. After you start the Overhaul Application, it’s easy from there on. Just follow the simple steps provided & you will be gaming in no time!

        • What if I have moved my “steam” folder from Program files x86? I have my Steam –> Steamapps –> Common –> Morrowind located through my normal “My Documents.

Will it still work fine if I put it in the correct folder(Morrowind, where Data Files is)?

  3. Amazing! Great walkthrough as well.
Thanks for all your hard work!

  6. Kenji, my Breton game character, thanks you alot for motivating me to play through the game once again!

  7. Hey, I just installed your mod with your program and now when I try to run Morrowind it gives me a message saying “The program can’t start because d3dx9_40.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” Well, the game worked fine before, and I just got done reinstalling it for the second time and this message still appears. Can you please help?

    • You didn’t install the Directx 9.0c I linked in the guide.

    • Download d3dx9_40.dll (from or anywhere else) and any other missing dlls and copy it into C:\windows\system32 or install the whole dx9 package as kingpix said (I had some problems with installing older dx version over newer one in the past so I prefer the first option 🙂 )

  8. I have no MGEgui.exe

  9. You wrote: “I was unable to contact some mod authors, and have done my best to abide by their wishes as specified in their mod’s readmes.”

Oh dear. I think I am going to report you immediately and demand your ISP comes down …

No, not really, I’m just kidding. I won’t behave like those hypocrite hooligans who tried to crucify the author of the ‘Morrowind 2011’ project.

  10. When I try to run MGE it says that I must patch BloodMoon to 1.6.1820. Ok, but when I try to do that it says : Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match. Than it finishes and a new window comes up and says : Congratulations ! BloodMoon has been successfully uprgaded. I click on OK and try to run MGE again, but it says again that I need to patch BloodMoon.

    Please help me !!!

    • This has to do with the order in which you installed the updates…
The only way to fix your problem is to uninstall Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon
and then re-install them and update them in the correct order.
If you are willing to do this, follow these instructions:

1)Install Morrowind, and update Morrowind to v1.2.0722
2)Install Tribunal and update Tribunal to v1.4.1313
3)Install Bloodmoon and update Bloodmoon to v1.6.1820

all patches can be found at

      • i have the same problem, no offense, but this is making me go crazy… i´ve tried to install mgso 4 times, everytime with some weird error, even with reading the guide and installing all of the components… ok, the 5th time and the last time..

        • ok, i was stupid, following the installation order (and the patches as well) worked out. everything is beautiful now, thank you : )

      • Good fix, worked perfectly for me to get the game running, but my MGgui still wont run. Error:

  11. Any idea when the other two overhaul mods will be complete? I am really looking forward to seeing this project complete, but am waiting for the total package, and wonder how many months(years) I might be looking at. Looks great so far.

  12. error
,,Failed to load snowflake: Meshes\BM_snow_01nif.” 🙁 but this file is already in meshes
Please help what i can do?.)

  13. Whenever I try to run Morrowind after this patch I keep getting an error saying that I failed to load snowflake: Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif, how can I fix this?

    • dont install morrowind in program files. had the same problem on vista 5 years ago on vanilla morrowind\tribunal\bloodmoon and i didnt know what to do but now on win7 installed it to C:\morrowind and the error went away so dont delete anything. and yeah im from finland so my english is pretty bad 😛

  14. Hi again me, i took these file vurt_bm_snow_01.nif from instalition data i rename it to bm_snow_01.nif then i put in game directory meshes but it write ,,Morrowind stop working” 🙁

  15. sorry ppl for spam i find it in fAQs.

  16. Have you also looked at this excellent tut, maybe there are some ideas in it that are still usefull to add

  17. Help,
I can’t seem to download the files. I am having problems accessing the elderscrolls web site. it won’t load for me, it just sits there in my browser for ever and never loads. So I downloaded all the 12 files from mega upload. All of files are in the following format Pack.7zip.012. Nothing I can do will let me decompress them. I even tried renaming the file to a 7zip file which always corrupts the data. PLEASE HELP! Can you upload to the TESnexus. I can download from there.

  18. the MGEgui file isnt showing up for me

  19. It’s been a while since i played morrowind. So when i installed it, i went to check to see if there is someone who could enhance my experience playing the game. By the way your compilation was excellent. I installed it and everything when on smoothly.
I just would like to ask what other mod that is compatible with this. I have MCA and COM on my pc but i haven’t install it for i fear i might do something wrong and cause me to be unable to play the game.

  20. Opening MGSOO gives me an error of, “To run this application, you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v4.0.30319
Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET Framework.”

  21. When i try to start Morrowind a little window pops up saying: “Failed to load snowflake: Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif.” What do I need to do to get the game started?

    Thanks in advance.

  22. Hello! First off, I’m crazy about this mod… I can’t wait to try it out! Wonderful work! I’ve tried to play Morrowind several times, perhaps this time I’ll pull myself together and fully explore the game!

    I have a problem:
When I come to step 16 the MGSO options window doesn’t automatically open, so I try opening it manually opening “mgso options.exe”. Then I get the message: you need to install one of the following versions of .Net Framework if you want to drive this *something something* program: v4.0.30319.
Contact your *something something* if you need more information about which version of .Net framework is fitting…”

Sorry for the crappy english, the message is in my native language.

Any help is very much appreciated!

    • A more accurate translation:

      “NET.Framework Initialization Error

To run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET.Framework: V4.0.30319

Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET.Framework.”

      • Note to self: Always google before bothering ^^

Downloaded some microsoft stuff and it seems to be working! Installation continues…

  23. I’m having an issue with the distant land stuff. I followed the guide, but I’ve got all these trees, leaves, etc appearing and disappearing in random places as I move around. Please help me fix this. I’m using the latest version.

  24. AMAZING! Completely clear guide, no issues installing 🙂

Thanks, keep it up, the game looks brand new.

  25. Hi,

after installing both the game and the Overhaul, and doing both right, I still get an error Message when I start the Game:

Error: Failed to load snowflake; Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif.

Game worked perfectly befor installing Overhaul.

Can you please point out, what I did wrong ?!

    • I had this same problem and it had either to do with Running as Administrator or a conflict between the Mod: Tamriel Rebuilt and Morrowind Comes Alive. So to run them both at the same time is not possible. So you will have to either deactivate morrowind comes alive or re-install everything and just not install tamriel rebuilt.

  26. unfortunately, i am new to modding. i mean what i am about to write.

    morrowind – a masterpiece
morrwind w/ MGSO – the greatest game i’ve ever played

thank you to the MODDERS who made MGSO possible

  27. Your acronym is incorrect. If this is the Morrowind Sound and Graphics Overhaul, its acronym should be MSGO, not MGSO.

  28. Hi first of al thanks for the mod, i am realy excited to play morrowind again.

But i havent been able to yet, i followd the turtorial and it whent fine but when i run morrowind i get a error message. Unable to load snowflake Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif. and the game wont run.

Hope you know a way to fix this.

    Greeting Dino.

    • I had the same exact issue, tried everything. What you might try is going into your Morrowind folder, go into data files and delete the files Bloodmoon, and Bloodmoon.bsa and then reinstall just Bloodmoon, because it appears that this error has something to do with bloodmoon maybe not installing right. I tried this and it works so far, havent gotten to Solstheim yet to see if it messed anything up with the overhaul on that section but everything else seems fine.

  29. found the answer in the FAQ’s thanks..

        • mlox doesn’t work with other languages sometimes, just skit that step 🙂
Sorry for the late reply dude, I was doing my exams… 🙁

          • Oh ok no problem 🙂

I got it working with all the mods! I’ve reorder the mods by myself with ” ReOrder tool ” that I’ve found on the internet. To see the new order, you have to sell what mlox sets, copy the new order in a pad then set the new order manually! 😀

            Thanks anyway!

  32. i cant download this link. i downloaded it twice each time on diffrent computers and i had the same problem. my problem was that when i downloaded the rar file and i opened it up. it was blank. nothing is inside. i used winrar and Winace to open the file. they were still FUCKING EMPTY im getting mad becuase i want to get this mod going and each time i download it its Courupted

  40. I am stuck at step 22,mgui.exe keeps crashing on me please help!

  41. […] Morrowind Overhaul – A Compilation Mod […]

  42. installato seguendo il video alla perfezione sulla versione usa piu a ggiornata 1.6…
errore irreversibile all’avvio non trova una mesh nella directory

  43. I know not to install in program files… Where should I download it then?

  44. Also should I install it in my os just not in the program files?

  45. When I click apply in MSGO Options an error comes up saying Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue if you click quit the application will close immediately.

Could not find file C:\Users\Nathan\Desktop\Installation Data\Morrowind.ini

  46. Also I have no MGEgui.exe

  47. MGSO install stops at 11% and tells me it cant continue because of a missing file please how do I fix this?

  48. Installation and configuring was a little tricky, but the pdf guide and video helped a lot to get it working right. This is my first time playing Morrowind, and it’s hard to believe that it’s almost 10 years old with how great it looks with MGSO. 7 hours just flew right by and I can’t wait to play more this weekend.

Congratulations and respect on putting it all together.

  49. MGE is not included with the 1.0 download provided at the link on the video page.

Aside from that, several steps are different, with different checkboxes than what the video shows, etc.

It seems the pack was updated, some things were omitted and other details changed, but it wasn’t updated in the video or on the PDF.

Is there an alternative version of the 1.0 download somewhere that might have everything, so I can follow the video/pdf and have everything go as instructed?

  50. I can’t get the MGEgui file to run, I tried running as Admin but it just says it stops working.

  51. So when I try to run the msgo_install it tells me its not compatible with my version of windows which is win7 64bit… am I missing something?

  52. Ive only played morrowind once and never all the way through is this a good mod to start out with or for a first time through is it better to just go vanilla

    • I’d say that this mod is absolutely vital for anyone starting out if they don’t “appreciate” older graphics. I know a few people who look at vanilla Morrowind and, despite it looking interesting and having a great deal of depth, they just can’t get past the fact that the original graphics have aged about as well as pong.

  53. One suggestion for 2.0 though as well as for other players. I found the Better Clothes 1.1 addition of the “tailoring kit” and “clothing fit” dialog options to be a little annoying. A better solution in my opinion would be to use the Better Clothes 1.1 NAC (No Argonian Change) which removes these dialog options and the tailoring kit then select the Argonian Clothing Choice option in Morrowind Code Patch which does the same thing without making the player manually make npc Argonians fix their clothing.

  54. We all need torrent, cause 400mb x3 is too much, i think. Please make this torrent as fast as you can ! Thanks

  55. The release papers seem to be blank when I select them with no option to take them. Any advice of what could have gone wrong?

    • actually all the paper scrolls seem to be blank in the game. I tested this using the alternative beginnings mod to bypass the census office. I can’t take or read any scroll…what should I do?

Also I cannot seem to be able to install part 2 of this mod, some error message keeps popping up everything i try to extract it into the morrowind dictionary where the first part is.

  56. Great job man I’d kiss you if I could (and it wouldn’t seem so gay :D) the auto-clicking and auto-filling in installer really impressed/amused me 😀 how did you do it and what language did you use? (also the autoinstall froze in the morrowind launcher and took the mouse control from me the first time I ran it, this could’ve been my fault though)

Many many cheers from The Czech Republic :):):)

  57. is this playable on 1920 X 1080 ??

  58. I keep running into the following error whenever I attempt to install this mod for Morrowind GOTY: MSGO 2.0 installer error: Non 7z archive. I have the PC Gamer Presents: TES III: Morrowind GOTY Edition which has the original game plus the expansions all on 1 DVD ROM. I have all the required programs for this to run (.NET Framework 2.0, 4.0, Directx 9.0c June 2010, Java Runtime Environment 7), yet I keep getting this error message. I’m using a program called J-Zip to extract this executable. Why is this? I have tried to get this running for days now but to no avail. Also, do I need to download all 4 parts or are these just different hosts that contain the same file? Thanks!

    • I am getting the same thing. I did you end up finding a way to fix the problem?

      • I ended up finding a solution to the problem. I download the overhaul form Morrowind Nexus which the data.exe was giving us the non 7z archive error. So i re-downloaded from a the torrent link listed above at the start of the page. The overhaul install worked fine after that new download. So in short try different download coz some of links are missing file or corrupted file like the data.exe non 7z archive error.

  59. “is this playable on 1920 X 1080 ??” Yes

I also got Unable to load snowflake Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif. Error, run the game as administrator, fixed it for me.

  60. I keep getting the error Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif. i tried running the game as an admin on both the game and the launcher but still gives me the error!!! I’m running version 1.2 of MSGO

  61. is there any way to remove the water mods that come with this? i reverted back to mgso rev 178 since the new mgso (autoinstall version) lags my pc with all the water mods. and im not talking about the shader options, removing all of those mods don’t help alleviate my lag.

  62. I’m sorry to bother you with such a trivial thing, but are there other downloads other than livid.
I have had problems wit livid in the past and I just can’t deal with it?

  64. wow u guys rock i mean this is the best overhaul ever!

  65. Absolutely love it! I appreciate your efforts.

  66. For some reason, I’m getting a black screen when starting up a new game. Someone stated that MGE might be the cause of it, and disabling MGE seems to fix it, which sucks. I’m using the non-steam version, so if anyone knows what could be causing this conflict, I would love to know. I:

  67. it will download the file but when i open it and extract it. it says that the .exe is corrupt.

  68. The automatic install hangs and does not go on when it comes to the point of getting the load order right. What can i do? All the “pre-release” things i already did correctly.

  69. When I run this automatic installer, I get all the way to the mlox updater(i don’t know if that exactly what it is called) and then it crashes, leaving me with no mouse or keyboard input. After restarting my pc I try to run Morrowind and I get the error “Failed to create shader Shades\TexCoord_4_Offset_A.vso” then many more like it. I installed every requirement like the .net framework, directx 9.0c and java. Worked perfectly fine on my old pc. And I have done everything the same.

  70. I ran into some problems installing, still have a couple of issues but it works reliably now. I have to say, this turns Morrowind into something else. It brings out the fantastic artistic design hidden under aged graphics, and creates a world that seems like more than just a bunch of polygons rendered in 2002. Thanks!

  71. I followed all instructions carefully and the installation worked perfectly on my first try. This is such an awesome project, made even more awesome by the user-friendly nature of version 2.0. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    *returns to epic Morrowind marathon*

  72. I have an error that asks for “Textures\BM_Player_hit_01.tga”. I could find “Textures\” in the Bloodmoon CD, but not “.tga”. What gives?

  73. I have to say something. You guys (the morrowind overhaul team) are the most amazing people that the world has ever known. You have taken the most amazing game and updated it without breaking the immersion, so that people can continue to play this masterpiece for years to come. Thanks for all your hard work, and I look forward to playing morrowind again.

  74. Whenever I try to run MCP I get an error that says:

Traceback (most recent call last): File “”, line 162, in onPatch File “”, line 287, in onPatch WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied

Now, I know nothing about python but it seems that this would be a problem linked to UAC or read/write rights. After I close the error screen it says:

    “Analyzing Morrowind.exe… Backing up Morrowind.exe to Morrowind.Original.exe”

    But nothing happens after that.

My game is not in the /Program Files directory,

The contents of the folder have full permissions and are not read-only,

And I run the program as an Administrator.

Any suggestions? I’m really frustrated at this point having exhausted google.

    • I’ve got exactly the same problem! Exept that I am running a german system and it says Windows Error 5: Zugriff verweigert 🙂

  75. Awesome work kingpix! Thanks for all the work you’ve done and are still doing for Morrowind. I’m not up to date on the big overhaul mods for Oblivion but I do know that the last update for FCOM was just over 3 years back. I thought it would be great if someone did all the work you’ve done for Morrowind on getting one super self-extracting mod for Oblivion as well. There seems to be tons of mods out for Oblivion, and FCOM as far as I know was the only one that tried to get the big ones to all work together. Man was it ever a pain to install it all, half of it being the download time. Took me about a full day to do it all in the correct order; though, this was 3-4 years ago.

Perhaps this could be a future project for you when you are satisfied with the Morrowind game play overhaul? Anyhow it would be great work if you did.

  76. This is great. Some parts are prettier than Skyrim.

  77. I’m having a problem with MGSO Options. The game and both expansions are installed and work fine. I solved the common snowflake error with the transferring of files, and got the latest Bloodmoon patch. All the files extract fine, but once it gets to the Options, and I hit apply, about halfway through the process I get this error: I am running the .exe as Administrator. I’ve been looking for a solution to my problem but haven’t been able to find one. Anyone here have some ideas?

  78. Every time the extracting is done it says “does not have permission to write to the steam folder”. Yes i ran as administrator. I have no idea why its not working.

    • Got it installed but every time i go to play morrowind it gives me errors and says “cannot create shader Shaders/blah blah blah”.

  79. Woowww! Your work is amaizing!
    Thank you for this!

Morrowind was already better than skyrim, but now it’s prettier than skyrim!

  80. Amazing creation. However, when I play the game now I get random errors or crashes to desktop quite frequently and sometimes textures will be missing on carpets and they will appear white.

Is this supposed to be happening?

  81. I’m looking at the videos for this on Youtube and it looks amazing! Any ETA/estimated date on which 3.0 will be released?

    • They have not set a release date yet the only information is “very” soon but just think the longer they take to put on the finishing touches the less likely there is to be bugs and the more likely it is to rock..just give them some more time I promise you its worth waiting for unlike “Dawngaurd” what a joke

  82. When will it be released? Bought TES III a week ago and decided to wait for this mod!

    • No one knows yet it will be soon though and it is worth waiting for Just give them little bit to make sure everything is in good order for a public release…the longer they take the less likely there is to be bugs

  83. Could we have an update on the current status? I know you can’t give an exact date, I know it’s difficult and I’m not trying to be a cunt. It’s just, it has been several weeks since the time frame was ‘a few days’ and I’m bored senseless with Morrowind as my current strategy for non-boredom.

However, if it’s going to be another week + it makes more sense for me just to get morroblivion rather than this.

So, could have an update with the best possible guesstimate please?

  84. Would you say that Morroblivion’s texture pack is better than this?

    • Well this project is not only about the graphics in morrowind but preserving the morrowind game play and personally I do not like the character face meshes in oblivion which can not be fixed with textures lol personally I prefer morrowind face meshes to oblivion which is actually sad but with mge which is provided no I believe morrowind overhaul is much better looking then morroblivion that is only personal opinion though as well threw MGE which is included in morrowind overhaul there is many better shaders and features that can be enabled versues oblivion which actually makes it close to on par with skyrim and with those blessed workers that are making Openmw the open source morrowind engine they can take MGE efforts that much further while keeping the awesome gameplay we love in morrowind and enhancing it further

  85. 3.0 can I use my old save from 2.0. I played Morrowind GOTY MOP 1.3 before I used 2.0. My old saves 1.3 worked after installed 2.0.So with 3.0 can I use my old save from 2.0?

  86. Will I need just tribunal for this mod or both tribunal and bloodmoon? Also, will there be voice dialogue in the mod or map marker for quests? Video looks great by the way, keep up the good work.

  87. I’ve installed all patches, that were in the instructions, but MWO installer shows an error, that tells me I haven’t my game patched. I of course hace english version of Morrowind.

  88. Hi,

I love the idea of Morrowind Overhaul. It’s fantastic! I don’t have a problem manually adding mods but this makes it so much easier to do so and far far less chopping and changing between different mods, and gives me (everyone) more leverage to get more people to play Morrowind, and the excuse of ‘adding mods is tedious and difficult’ disappears very quickly! 🙂

The question I have is – the Overhaul is for a clean Morrowind install…..can I add other mods after? Eg. Tamriel Rebuilt, Anastasia, Silgrad Tower, Morrowind Comes Alive, Less Genereic NPCs? Oh and NOM also?

  89. Can we please try it out? Or when will you release this awesome pack? I’m waiting for v3 and won’t install v2 because it didn’t previously work so well.. Thanks for all the great work and making Morrowind better!

  90. Any news about 3.0?

  91. Hey! How’s going the work? Can’t wait for the 3.0!!!! 😉

  92. I’m keeping getting corrupt file crc error. Tried two different download links. From all the comments so far, I’m not sure the overhual mod is fully ready for release yet.

  93. I can’t seem to get the installer to work… The problem lies in the fact that it appears that I can’t launch the morrowind launcher, and thus complete that required step of the installer.. Which is odd, because I’ve never had any problems with Morrowind before, and I cannot get either my retail version or steam version of morrowind launcher.exe to work… This is a real shame because I was very keen to revisit Morrowind, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what is the problem? I’ve tried reinstalling multiple times, defragged my computer, cleaned my registries, tried compatibility modes and fiddled with properties of the file… All to no avail. Alas, any help provided would be warmly welcomed, and thanks if you bothered to actually read this.

  94. I have the same problem the Makro has. How can I get rid of it?

  95. Just wanted to pass on my compliments to whoever designed the installer. It is a thing a beauty. Congrats!

  96. After playing Morrowind for years, I finally heard about this. I thought that the idea was ingenious, so I checked it out. I watched the trailer for 3.0 and, looking at the graphics quality and comparing it to the original Morrowind, I thought I was going to pass out it was so beautiful. The graphics quality was a mix between Oblivion and Skyrim; it was absolutely amazing.

  98. Guys, this is a masterpiece. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that it would look this nice and function this well. Super work!

  99. Sorry, haven’t been following the progress for a while, I’ve just been waiting for it to come out, but Is the installer out yet?

  100. Hi, I’m a big fan of your work at Morrowind Overhaul 3.0.
I tried to install it but then I noticed that it isn’t compatible with the german version of the game.
So here’s my question: Could you bring out a small patch for the Overhaul, that I can install it on my german version of the game? I and lot’s of other people would be very happy and grateful!
    Greetings from Germany

  101. Hey, im stuck on the last step. everything else seems to work fine (although at the beginning the program doesnt recognise my graphics card – i have a switchable: AMD HD7730M and an integrated intel one, the launcher only ever detects the latter). Anyway, when i run MGE it starts off fine and i dont interupt it. very breifly an error message flicks up but it gone before i read it and i cant get a screenshot – it mentions distant lands and the word ‘old’ but i cant see any more. shortly after the program enters onto the distant lands settings but stops doing anything while hovering above the seoncd tab. at that point i still do not have mouse control but the program has stopped working and wont do anything. i have to cntrl alt delete and then exist that menu at which point i regain control but the program fails ad i have to run the whole mod thing again. I am using windows 8

    • Hi Ollie, we couldn’t test it with windows 8 so we can’t guarantee a full compatibility with the Overhaul, but keep in mind that is normal for the mouse to freeze for a bit.

  102. I’m from Germany so sorry wenn you don’t understand me ;D

I have a Problem with the installation process. Every time when i start the Morrowind Launcher (in the installation) nothing happens. The Launcher opens the mouse goes to options an than nothing. So i always have to restart my computer because i cant move the mouse or use the keyboard.

    i have Windows 7 64-bit and 8 GB Ram
My intel Version is intel core i 5 3,5 ghz

Please help me because i want to play morrowind but not with his own graphic.

    • Hi soulstation, it’s normal for the mouse to temprary freeze, please wait for the installation to complete te process!

      • Hi 🙂
What is your definition of “temporary freeze”? I was waiting for ~10 minutes without any action. :/ Is there a possibility to complete this step manually without crashing the installer?

  103. For everyone having the non 7 zip file error

I installed 7 zip (free dl) and it worked.

  104. excellent work. thank you, devs

  105. Can someone please for the love of God upload an update for the overhaul to include code patch 2.1 or can they explain how I can do it myself? I’m tearing my hair out here thinking I’m going to have to manually install EVERYTHING because of one stupid patch

  106. I can’t get this to work.
I tried to install it once, and the install worked fine, but got messed up because I had an old Morrowind directory lying around that it tried to install to instead of the one where the game is actually installed. After that, I deleted all of my morrowind files, cleaned everything, and reinstalled from steam. Then I tried to reinstall MGSO. Whenever I do, however, something very strange happens; I run the installer, and it adds a bunch of files to my Morrowind directory, but nothing happens. The install window doesn’t open, it doesn’t verify that it’s in a valid morrowind install folder, nothing. Even stranger is when after that happened I tried to delete all the files and start over; it said that I couldn’t delete the folder Installation Files because the file Unhandled Exception.exe was being used.
Anyone know what’s going on? I would really love to use this mod!

  107. Nevermind, restarting Steam worked (not on the first time though). Thanks for a great mod!

  108. It wont let me launch code patch in mo installer please help!!!

  109. Next version MUST include Book rotate mod. It took me days to arrange all of my books in Morrowind.

  110. I decided to play Morrowind again after a few years and found this site and the Morrowind Overhaul. I am in AWE! It is an amazing compilation and I am so excited to play Morrowind again! I took some screenshots just after creating a new character, and WOW…. the game is so much smoother as well, bug-free, etc. Well done!

  111. Although UAC is disabled and all checks pass before beginning the extraction of files/backup of vanilla version, my download just freezes. A box says “please wait…” and behind it is a security warning box “unknown publisher is attempting to blablabla”

I waited a good while just in case it really did just need to wait, but I feel the security warning (that shouldn’t even be coming up…) is interfering. When I watch the video tutorial it looks nothing like what I end up getting. How can I fix this and make it extra properly? Or am I just impatient and it does take a dang long time?

  112. When I get to the MGSO options of the installation, I check all my preferred setting and click appy. But after this, the MGSO options window stays open and whenever I just close it the installation crashes. Any help?

  113. When I get to the MGSO options of the installation, I check all my preferred setting and click apply. But after this, the MGSO options window stays open and whenever I just close it the installation crashes. Any help?

  114. In the wiki there is a reference to version 3.1 with an auto-updater on the updates page, yet I can’t find it anywhere else.

Does anyone know anything about version 3.1 or newer?

  115. i cant find anything about who made what mod anywhere

  116. While running the overhaul install, I get to the code patch and it ALWAYS fails to apply. I run the installer as admin and everything…… I don’t have my steam in program files x86. It’s…
my docs -> steam -> steamapps -> common -> Morrowind.

    I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled twice now with a fresh Morrowind and it doesn’t work….

    • I have this exact same error myself. It gets to the code patch and when I click on the button in the middle of the screen to do it, it gives me an error stating that it cannot find Morrowind Code Patch.exe in the directory. I look manually, and other places and do not find it. I too, have uninstalled and attempted this again, and was only met with the same problem. This frusterates me… I will read more and hope I can solve this myself as I see nothing in the FAQ 🙁

      • Ironically, in the FAQ it does not list the specific error I had, HOWEVER, this error falls under the guidance for “Morrowind stops working when I launch it, when I start a new game or when I load a savegame” I read several people had an issue with that. I have a Windows 7 64-bit system with plenty of ram and hardware. Following the FAQ excerpt below fixed it for me:

Run MGEXEgui.exe (you can find it in your MW folder).
        Navigate to the In-game tab.
Check “Disable internal MWSE” and close the program

    • FFS I’m getting the same thing, PLEASE respond. It locked up the first time with the 2011 CP. After I replaced the 2011 code patch that it auto-inserted with the 2013 version, it still opens, and all my patches have already been applied, yet it locks up. Either I have to ctrl-alt-delete and force it to shut down, or I wait and it crashes itself. I tried setting all related things to Win XP S2 compatibility w/ admin privileges to no avail.

Running Windows 7 x64 on an otherwise jacked computer.

      Help, please and thank you.

    • I am having the same problem so I am waiting on a new release more auto with no options sounds better to me or we could wait on skywind and skyblivion and we will be able to play all 3 games in skyrims engine.

  117. I have the same problem as Mike. I keep getting a message that the system can’t find C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\morrowind\data\installer files, although morrowind code patch is there, and in fact I applied the patch by clicking on the icon. Morrowind Overhauls did not recognize that the patch had been created, when I did it. Also, when I started the Overhaul, I got a message saying that the Program did not recognize the Unhandled Exceptions file, although that file was also there.

  118. I’m having some issues getting the installer to work. When I go to launch the Code Patch, it says that the Morrowind Code Patch crashed before it could be executed…. Help? Thanks!

  119. Hellos, i’ve used this mod a long time ago and i loved it, but for some reason with this newer version, when i launch the MGSO-modified Morrowind.exe, it crashes when i load into the world, when i go to new game or load a save. I’ve gone over the steps repeatedly, but i don’t know what’s wrong. It works fine when i use the Morrowind.Original.exe, but not the new one. As well, it doesn’t give any errors, just says that the game has stopped working.

my system specs are as followed:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
    RAM: 8.00 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630

  120. Matching IDs: furn_pillow_01

    Morrowind Patch v1.6.3.esm: type Activator
Unique Jewelry and Accessories.esp: type Static
I get this when i start the game and then it crashes.
    How to fix it?

  121. Hi, I have the original disk and I was wondering how do I install this without owning the two expansions, as I don’t feel like buying them just for this.
I looked everywhere online and I can’t find anything related to this, please help me.

    • Pretty sure you need everything. While I completely understand your thought process, I am under the opinion that the expansion packs make the game better, and add a ton of cool stuff. It is sometimes super cheap on Steam.

  122. Why does morrowind randomly crash i am just walking around it will say problem with morrowind blah blah blah i wanna play the game in peace and not have to worry about crashes fix??????

  123. same problem, only when I go to run the code patch, it doesn’t even give me an error. The mouse freezes in place and I can’t do anything until I ctrl-alt-delete and force close the process. Any advice?

  124. hi there!

i have a problem regarding the installation process: when i get to the step “Morrowind Launcher” the installer opens the default launcher menu to supposedly change something in the options, but it freezes once the options (which it’s supposed to change) pop up.

i can’t do anything, but turn my laptop off and on again, because the program prohibits the use of mouse and keyboard (some genius at work again…)

i’ve tried several times and it’s an incredibly tedious, tiresome process each time, because i have to restart my the OS every time.

    pls help me!

  125. Similar to others, the game crashes for me when I start a new game (it was a fresh install, so haven’t had games to load to see if that works). It plays the opening cutscene, but then I get a black screen with music and Morrowind is listed as not responding.
I did try selecting “Disable internal MWSE” in the MGEXEgui, and that didn’t seem to help.

I’m using a Steam version, and I installed this mod with a completely clean installation of Morrowind (Steam’s Game of the Year edition).

    Any advice?

    System specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T 3.00 GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 SE
    Ram: 4.00 GB

    • Nevermind! You can disregard my question above. Turns out it is just very slow to fully load when I start a new game; it sits at a black screen for a while with the music playing, but it turns out it does load successfully if I’m just patient.

      Great mod. Thanks!

  126. after installing this my mouse moves on its own and no clue why
